It’s National Poetry Day So She Responds in Kind
by gillis
She didn’t believe he was sorry
for eating the cool plums from
the refrigerator and yes, she had
been saving them for breakfast.
She thought he would probably
have ended up
exactly
the same
if he had taken the road
more traveled,
he wasn’t really that interesting
to anyone but himself.
She found the goat-footed
balloonman
a little creepy
if she were being honest.
She wanted her beamish boy to
stay in the mimsy borogoves in the yard
and not go whiffling off
snicker-snack all the time.
When she heard the fly buzz,
she hit it with the flyswatter.
What a clever response poem! I love it so much. Nice cross-section of poets.
