Fat Tuesday in Middle School
by gillis
Tuesday
Fat with possibility
Round and smooth,
Monday’s anxiety is blunted.
Wednesday’s ashes and humps
are off in the distance.
A parade of revelers
marches to the sound of
off key bells,
A surging rainbow of fleece and denim
clouds of Axe and bubblegum
dragging behind them.
They wave cellphones and binders
to onlookers they
toss hair
and the occasional
pencil.
Great poem! Loved the “Tuesday – Fat with possibility” and “Wednesday’s ashes and humps are off in the distance”.
Congratulations on your 100th post! (tossing glitter and confetti, releasing doves, applauding wildly)
This is my world, too, thanks for capturing it so well!
Sounds very middle school!! :)) Enjoyed this
“A surging rainbow of fleece and denim
clouds of Axe and bubblegum
dragging behind them.”
“They wave cell phones and binders” –love this line because it reminds me of my 6th graders. I really enjoyed this poem; so much imagery packed into a few lines!
