Why Tuesday is the Jan Brady character in our work week
by gillis
Tuesday is the day that we become resigned
to another work week.
That nagging cough never did
materialize into an illness worthy of bedrest.
The weather is fine,
there will be no storms to block the roads.
So off we go with our bags
and something close to acceptance.
No one expects much of a Tuesday.
If there’s leftover birthday cake in the staff room,
we feel a small lift, until
we see that it’s stale, and the frosting
is mostly shortening.
For the rest of the day,
Tuesday is coated with a grainy,
sweetish film.
And we’ve left our toothbrush
at home.
Oh, how very true this is!
I especially love how you wrap it up. One last insult of the day…
Great analogy! My family and friends use “Jan Brady” as an adjective frequently. It’s beginning to show me how old I am in that more and more people don’t get the reference 😀
And this is precisely the reason we chose Tuesday as the day we slice year-round.
This is why we decided to marry in March – it’s the Jan Brady of the calendar – not much to look forward to, staying the course here in New England until real spring. With anniversaries each year at least we have a little lift. Unless, like me, you sometimes forget your anniversary. Then the fireworks are of a different nature.
hmmm….agree…Tuesday’s child is full of face??? What does that mean? I love the part about birthday cake in the lounge. xo nanc
LOL…Monday’s child is fair of face: Tuesday’s child is full of grace…So… perhaps Tuesday’s child should be full of face, and Monday’s could be fairly graceful!
Cute post. Gotta love Tuesdays!
Tuesday will no longer be that groaning kind of day. It’s a party day because we get together and read about pieces of life from far and near.
Love the last two lines. They describe Tuesday perfectly. You’ve captured my mood today exactly–but Elsie is right. It is Slice of Life Tuesday, so I better perk up!
I could see the bent over postures and groany faces that walked into your poem about Tuesday.
You described the cake in the lounge perfectly! I like your lines – So off we go with our bags and something close to acceptance. And now I’ll try to celebrate Tuesday as the day I write and hear from writing friends.
Oh, this is wonderful. You are so right when you say, no one expects much of a Tuesday. I really love, love, love it. May I share it with colleagues?
Oh sure! I hope you survived your Tuesday…
I love your title. I laughed out loud at “That nagging cough never did
materialize into an illness worthy of bedrest.”
You have such a great sense of humor!
How inspired! Poor Tuesday. I thought even the line breaks carried the humor of this piece. You made me chuckle.
